Circuit name inquiry

I need help identifying the name of a circuit

I heard from a friend about a certain circuit integrated into some R/C Cars/Toys which acts like some sort of safety mechanism. Its supposed to control the unit to return to the transmitter's location if it goes out of range. That friend of mine also told me that it has been mentioned in Mythbusters on several episodes.

Im trying to integrate that function into a "toy car" thats supposed to avoid obstacles, Im having no problem with the obstacle avoiding function but the transmitter tracking/following function has me stumped, not to mention having problems calling the circuit for it by description instead of an actual name for it.
