GDSII files

Is anyone aware about the possibility to be able to track the layout tool where the GDSII file is created? Will this version information be overwritten when you open the GDSII file with another layout tool?

Thanks!

Re: GDSII files

If i'm not wrong... teh gdsII file is created in your working directory rite? I'm using cadence by the way

Re: GDSII files

what tool are you using? In Cadence, for example you have export stream for exporting gdsII files and you can export anywhere you want. I'm not sure if the layout database (the file containing the layout information ) is a true gdsII type file.

Re: GDSII files

Thnx for the answer.

I did a small study on the syntax of a GDSII file and saw that besides
some header information like the modification date, last access date, font
size, used library, ... no information is stored regarding the tool that
created the GDSII file.

Re: GDSII files

That is correct. There is no GDS2 field parameter to describe the system that created the GDS file. However I cannot see why that would be necessary, since it is a standard format.

GDSII files

yes, when u stream out the gds file,

it shows only the time ,date parameters.
it doesnot show on which tool it is created .
since gds is the standard fomat followed by all foundries.
