How to start learning Software Programming - Any Guidelines

how to start learning programming

One of my friends wants to start learning programming. Can anybody provide guidance to him, like: where to start.......which language first?
 

I would suggest to learn C++, he may have to work hard at start but it will be useful

I suggest that learning BASIC is usefulness for him and it's may be easier.
