CAN BUS

Hello everybody !
I would like to know how far CAN BUS is used in the cars and if so, is there an easy way to read the information available there ?
Thanks beforehand.

Re: CAN BUS

CAN is used extensively in cars to connect the 10-30 microcontrollers. You should have no problems reading it (the bus is very robust) as long as you know where to tap in on your particular model and have the proper tools (a CAN capture and analysis tool).

Re: CAN BUS

you can see CANPIC project. it is based on the PIC18F258 microcontroller from Microchip.

schematic == **broken link removed**
software == **broken link removed**

enjoy for develop.

Also someone has posted the CAN specification at this forum. Search button should help you out.

Bosch are the inventors for the protocol and they do maintain the specs and a lot of information at their own website.

Re: CAN BUS

Actually CAN is a serial communication protocol. In automotive industry this protocol is mainly used. The maximum length of the cable shold be 40m. The most important is in both side the CAN bus should be terminate with 120 ohm resistor.

Maximun 30-40 node can be connected in a single CAN bus..

For more information you can seach in

www.bosch.com

also u can download CAN specification..
