how is netlist related to configuration file

hi..am an amateur in the field of vlsi...so pls help
netlist is the result of synthesis...what is its file format?
how is it related with the configuration file?

Netlists formats are often proprietary to the software and its implemenation scheme:

XNF, Xilinx's Netlist Format

Vendor Neutral Netlist Format

In the case of Xilinx, XNF file is used to generate a device dependent configuration file. The configuration file generated depends on the FPGA device and the Flash or Serial PROM device being programmed.
