Resistors, available in the market are having different tolerance value 1%, 5%, 10%, etc...

Instead of resistor tolerance 1%, If we use resistor tolerance is 5% or 10% does it affects the design.

Re: Resistor tolerance

The tolerance can mean more than just the value ..
In many cases it means a difference in temp coefficient, lower noise etc. etc.

Usually the absolute value is not critical, but in today’s terms (and prices) the difference (and availability) between 1% and 5% (or even 10%) is next to nothing, so why bother ..

what exactly are you designing? then can decide upon whether its ok or not to use it.

Re: Resistor tolerance

in medical equipments where precision matters a lot resistor's tolerance should be negligible. otherwise even 10% tolerance is acceptable.

It power electronic device mainly used to control lamp.

Added after 1 minutes:

What exactly tolerance in related to electronic design.

could you please exaclty tell what is the circutry, or upload it here.

though in power electronics it shouldnt matter much, but there are circuits where it matters.

tolerance in electronics is the range, in which the value can change.

say for eg:-

A resistor of 100ohms /10 % means the value can change anywhere between 90ohms and 110 ohms

Re: Resistor tolerance

ok
the tolerance of resistor it does matter in low power devices and high accurate filters . it all about the power and the sencetivity of your control circuit

Resistor tolerance

Tolerance matters in the precision biasing like 431 or like that rest can be designed with 10% tolerance with measuring. a 1% Change even can change 2 volt output in SMPSs.. In ballast current measuring resistor even destroy the lamp in 50% life too or increased life with reduced light. So, take ur own decision. I Recomend measure before fixing and choose the nearest value among the resistor packet.

Thanks
