how to know polarisation of antenna in hfss?

On designing an antenna in hFss how could one come to know its type of polarization?
is there any plot which that could help to conclude its type of polarisation ?

Re: how to know polarisation of antenna in hfss?

I suggest that you use plot field vector_E over a certain surface away from your antenna and animate it , this way you can see the direction of E in function of the phase and deduce the polarization.

Re: how to know polarisation of antenna in hfss?

Plot the far-field rETheta and rEPhi.

I am the new in this area. Could you tell us more detail as reading that graph to show the polarisation?
Thank you so much!!

Re: how to know polarisation of antenna in hfss?

from plotting rEtheta and rEPhi how can we know whether the type of polarisation is circular or linear?

Circular polarization will have equal magnitudes of rEtheta and rEPhi.

In general, the polarization of the radiating element is determined by the orientation of the fields and current.
For example the dipole has a polarization vector determined by the current on it.
In farfield, in the horizon direction is actually parallel to the current vector on the dipole.

What is the type of antenna you are referring to?

Look at the field/current on the excitation, think about the way the fields propagate inside the feeding mechanism and when you get to the radiating fields you can deduce the polarization of the antenna.

To completely describe the polarization state of a radiated field, two independent components are required. HFSS supports three types of descriptions:

• Spherical / polar

• Ludwig-3

• Circular

for that, you should plot field parameters like

Axial ratio of the electric field. and Polarization ratio of the electric field

the HFSS computations are respecting the IEEE definitions and norms
