VOICE OVER LAN

hi..
i want to know about audio chat over local area net works.
how it differ from VOIP

Re: VOICE OVER LAN

lots of software solutions is availalble for voice chat over the lan , here's the link to some kinda softwares :
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/lan-chat-voip.html
but Voice over Internet Protocol, also called VoIP, IP Telephony, Internet telephony, Broadband telephony, Broadband Phone and Voice over Broadband is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or through any other IP-based network.
There are two types of PSTN to VoIP services: DID (Direct Inward Dialing) and access numbers. DID will connect the caller directly to the VoIP user while access numbers requires the caller to input the extension number of the VoIP user. Access numbers are usually charged as a local call to the caller and free to the VoIP user(citation/example needed) while DID usually has a monthly fee. There are also DID that are free to the VoIP user but is chargeable to the caller .

Re: VOICE OVER LAN

yes that's right , and main issue is the bandwidth of the ethernet LAN is 100Mbps , which is very huge in comparison with VoIP requirements, so , no Quality of Service QoS is needed , and as you are not going to pass through routers , so no session layer should be invoked like h.323 ,...
