HIgh Voltage Switching

I need to switch between 0v to 20kv. I was fooling around the internet, but I am not sure what to use. I need a short pulse, like for 1 second it should be ON and then goes to zero. Not more then 1 second. Can anyone suggest me something what to use? Of course I dont have budget for $300-400 devices :-(

How much current do you need to switch?

I wont need any current actually. The thing is, I need to apply that voltage across open air and that will create electric field. I am working with that electric field. I am working on electrospinning.

What about rise and fall times? Your setup will have some capacitance, so you need at least some current to charge and discharge the capacitance of the setup.

Go and find yourself an old EHT regulator triode from a colour TV set circa, 1970. can handle 25 KV+ @100W.
