Help me with coin recognition through image processing in Matlab

I m doing my grad project on coin recognition using image processing.
but i m unable to read the number on it i.e. "5" written on a five rupee coin.
Can u plz help my with a matlab code for it or some link or some suggestions.

coin recognition using image processing

I played around with the "Tesseract" library for Python some time ago. I got some quite good character recognition results from it.

It will be found on the internet somewhere but I remember there being limited support on how to train or modify it.
