HFSS - Please Help Me

Hi, I am trying to calculate the capacitance of 2 parallel plates using HFSS
ver 9.1 and can not get the answer. The answer should be about 107pF.

Each plate is 1.0 inch x 1.0 inch and 1.0 mil (0.001inches) thick. The
plates are seperated by 10 mils. The dielectric layer between the plates has a dielectric constant of 4.4.

I am not sure how to set up the model, boundaries or the excitations (wave ports or lumped ports). Attached is my file <2parallel_plates.hfss>. Please tell what I am doing wrong and please attach your file.

I thank you very much. "camelot2" - Dave Collins

Re: HFSS - Please Help Me

You can try to execute manual meshing inside the dielectric layer.

Re: HFSS - Please Help Me

Try to increase number of passes, this number shoulld be about 10-20 for good results.

You forgot to upload your file in last post :)

Re: HFSS - Please Help Me

Hi,
I don't know which style field you want to simulate, static or time harmonic field?
If it's time harmonic field, the parallel palte capacitance is equated to the coaxial transmittal line, you can draw a coaxial model set two ports and simulate it.

You can see the manual meshing inside the dielectric layer

Re: HFSS - Please Help Me

Increase number of adaptive passes is a good idea. And you can reduce Max Delta S.

HFSS - Please Help Me

hi, I am a newer too, If nobody can helped, you should run your own model repeatedly with step-by-step changing of the conditions. it does work to me.
good luck!
