Hi, friends:

I am doing the inductor simulations. I did some simulation based on the data in some papers. But my simulation results are almost half of the Q and half of the peak Q frequency in the papers. I do not know what wrong with my simulations. I asked a RFIC guy. He said most of the paper regarding the inductor design in RFIC field let the inductor work in differential mode. Thus, the Q and peak Q frequency has been significantly improved. But from the paper, no one mentioned the inductor works in differential mode. I am wondering if the RFIC guy word is correct or not. If his word is correct, can anyone show me how to do the Q and L calculation when an inductor working in differential mode.

Thank you so much!

I also need to know about this. If anyone out there have any clue of how to accomplish this task, please let me know. I tried to follow instruction in user guide, but keep getting error message regarding boundry overlap and mesh not big enough. appreciate that

Boundry overlap may just be warnings since PEC takes precedence over radiation, etc. Mesh is a problem since it is usually not fine enough. See the graphics I posted that show the mesh size and it's effect on edge currents.

You may have to manually set the mesh size. The Q is highly dependant on edge currents so that may be where the problem is. Jim Rautio from Sonnet is an expert on this subject. Some of the papers on Sonnet's web site may be helpfull. Why are you using HFSS instead of a 2.5D simulator?

Hi MadEngr

You mentionned manual-mesh... Do you know how to put a manual-mesh between 2 structures but there's nothing between the 2 structure ?
Thanks

I do not know. I have only limited mesh size on conductors.

you can read the totorials of HFSS from the PDF of this link:
