Can anybody tell me what this part is called, its from the psu on a lg tv and its burnt out.
Would it also be worth replacing just this part or the whole board?

Replace original title by a leastwise opportune one.

They are capacitors and VERY rarely break down like that. I would guess the TV is an LCD model with cold cathode fluorescent backlight and those are in the backlight high voltage generator. It is possible they are all in series and one died and caused a cascade failure. Have a look at the back of the board and if possible send a photograph of the solder joints so we can see how they are connected.

The parts are inexpensive, certainly compared to a new board but I would be cautious of what caused the failure, it may not be on that board.

What is the TV model number?

Brian.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the quick reply appreciate it. I will take the board out tomorrow and photograph the solder joints, I was hoping I could just replace this part as all the other components look OK but I guess they could have failed. Do you think a power surge could have caused this? The model number is 65EG960V-ZA. Many thanks

Craig

I've got the service manual here but typical of LG, it doesn't include the power supply board at all, its a bought in module they say to replace if it fails. I'll let you know more when I've seen the photographs.

Brian.

It's possible a power surge caused this, but that would imply that a LOT of other parts got stressed or damaged. Sure, you can replace those parts, but they might fail again, or something else may fail. But I have to say, that looks like a catastrophic failure.
