hi friends!!

what is meant by fermi level??? i refered so my sites but i didn't get any clear idea about that...if any one knows please share with me...meaning of fermi level?? what chemical potential means?? where this fermi level used??

My hand waving description goes like this..

In molecular quantum physics, Fermi Levels are the same as chemical potential used in Semiconductor physics.

This graph shows a simple 2 dimensional way
Fermi-semi-electrons.png
the energy level of electrons that move from a valence band across a bandgap from an energy source so they can jump to a higher conduction band with free mobility.

HI....
Thanks 4 ur reply.....i refered the site mentioned below....

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/solids/fermi.html

first u just tell what is meant by chemical potential???

what i understood is...fermi level is a level which is present in between valence and conduction band for semiconductor...one more website show that,it is the upper most filled valence band....
