This device was constructed to use FT232R system to program AVR processors. It is a simple and useful programmer for everyone. Often new motherboards or notebooks aren't equipped with LPT socket, so simple programmers aren't suitable for this purpose.
Systems like FT232R are often used as USB/RS232 adapters. Here is easy to make machine that connects adapter with programmer.

Obviously, two diodes signalling performance of RS232 system can be added.
Elements needed:
  • USB socket
  • FT232R system
  • three condensers
  • pin socket 10pin (Kanada ISP connector + extension for RS232)
  • PCB

Programming and reading FLASH or FUSEBIT works fully satisfying.
Here a place in program is shown, thanks to which the programmer can be set/selected.

Its performance can be set slower (by clicking a tick in the program so it supports processors clocked at 1MHz.

This type of programmer was used in runtime set, which contains a chip. Making a 'smart' cable would prevent individual wires from tangling:

This is how it works in a set, even with ATB-Ethernet card on.
