Free Eagle Light from www.cadsoft.de may be the most preferred, it is power enough for you to start designing circuit diagrams and PCB layouts.

It is easy to learn in comparison to the other software.

It is one of the most famous software so you can easily find out its manual, help, examples, library elswhere in the internet.

The standard and professional versions are not so expensive, and affordable for a freshman in this area, in my opinion.

A few years ago I used PIA, it was a quite simple, easy to to use and at the same time powerfool tool, mainly for non initiated people.
