first principles of probability

Dear ones,

what does the term "first principles of probability theory" mean

Do you have some idea ? please share ..

Thanks a lot ...

There are may approaches to probability theory. You can study the Papoulis.

"First principles" normall refer to the "basic" approach. In this case I think it is set theory based.

I'm not completely sure, because I've never come across such expression, but I think that Kolmogorov fundamental axioms are meant here. They are rather evident and clear and may be found in any textbook on probability theory.

With respect,

Dmitrij
