Does anyone know the technology/logic/concept behind determining the finger position using capacitive sensing?

example you have a touch pad, how will i know the position of the finger on the pad, or which part of the pad was touched?

thank you.

Change in capacitance is the thing behind it

Search with google you can find alot

how about the layout of the touch pad.
is it like a single pad? of a multi-button pad arranged in matrix form?

thank you.
