The traditional is single-conversion with IF at about 36MHz, and a on-board RF bandpass tracking filter is a must. This is called can tuner. Although it's bulky compare to the emerging silicon tuner, can tuner can provide better performance, such as sensitivity, image rejection, etc. But silicon tuner, because of its high integration and low cost, will still be dominant.

As to architecture choise on DVB-C/T, several problems:
1). why choose 36MHz or 44MHz IF in traditional can tuner? only a tradition from analog? what is the genuine reason?

2) If to realize fully integrated, what are the great challenges, and how to solve them?

3) I think integrated RF bandpass tracking filter is a key techeque. are there anyone have experience on this?
