Hi everyone.

I am currently trying to develop a communication for pc to pc using fiber optics. I have some problems understanding the reasons to implement MAX232 with RS232 in my project. I have searched for some materials online but unfortunately i could not grab the concept. Hope someone can give me a detailed and simple explanation.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Hi,
You have two directions of communication to realize, do you plan to apply two fibers or two diferent wavelengths on only one fiber?
K.

I only plan to connect both computers using a single fiber optic cable.

OK, but a "single fiberoptic cable" can have two elementare fibers or only one!

You can check i.e. other topics too: #1235606

I am planning to use only 1 fiber optic cable now. But the problem im facing now is actually understanding the reason of implementing MAX232 in my project. I know it is to convert RS232 logic into TTL logic but i dont understand why..

RS signalling have had originally a +/_ values communication system...
I think you must read some (min. wikipedia) script dedicated to RS-Communications...
In my opinion you must not have the protocol/coding if you apply two fibers/two directions!
Because you dont have collissions, you needs is only transmitters(LED driver) & Receivers (photo diodes), but they are as product to buy; i.e. from Toshibas "POF"_PlasticOpticalFibres.
You can order only two moduls(really the both connectors) & x meters of fibers to that same system and the link is maked:).
Their are longtime established, on the markt (some other connector systems too) and cheap, but full OK for a comm. up to tenths of meters with tenths of Mbps...

Ok. Thx for your reply and help. I will be moving this thread.
