Can any output port (port0 with pullups) of a AT89C51/52 be used to drive a parallel character LCD ?
Is there any possibility of issues due to the low current drive/source capability of the said uC ?

Anyone here has actually interfaced a 16x2 LCD to a AT89C51/52 without any intermediate buffer ?

Would such a buffer be recommended ?

yes,of corse.
89C51/52 can driver the parallel character LCD no use any oter buffer.

yes it is very easy to interface an alpanumeric lcd with 8051 i have done it and it works well no need of any buffer .
if you need any help on this you can consult 8051 embeded systems by mazidi

yes of course
but is beter used mega8.

yes sure i am actually interfaced a 16x2 LCD to a AT89C51/52 without any intermediate buffer with no problem
