hi
could anyone please guide me how to solve this error:
"part index is out of date for a particular library path".

cheers
srk

symbol definition not found cadstar

Yes.

Go to the library menu, select "parts" then "parts index" and create a new one.
Ensure that the particular path is selected in the drop down box at the top. (if you have more than 1 library in your setup).

perhaps you have been editing your libraries and not renewed the index?

The parts index is an index that associates the schematic symbols to the PCB footprints through your part definitions.

Re: cadstar problem...

hi
am using only one library and doing parts index for the same.
iam able to add the other parts from the library. the error is coming only in the case of some parts.

cadstar problem...

Are these the default install libraries?

Have you been editing the libraries?

Are there any other error messages, perhaps an error report? What does this say?

Re: cadstar problem...

hi
those r the default libraries.i created some parts and stored in that libraries.
ofcourse some are the libraries created by me.
this is the first time i came across such error.
am just wondering how that error can come up only for certain parts of library.if that library is not properly associated, then none of the parts of that library should work.
no error report.that is the only error saying that part index is out of date for that library.

cadstar problem...

When you click on the button to make a parts index, a small box should pop up that is titled "parts error report", tick the "view report" option.
THis will tell you more about the error and allow you to save it for posting here.

Often it is something like a symbol or footprint name that is not 100% correct.

I must say that I have never had that exact error.

By the way, in your configuration options, is the library path setup to point to the library correctly?

Are you able to isolate the parts that you have changed/added recently that may have caused this error?

cadstar problem...

Cadstar requires part indexing when you added, deleted or modified any part.
So after doing part indexing as cyberrat said, the error should resolved.

One more thing may happen you do the part indexing in design editor as wellas library editor for same library path.

Just try that one.

cadstar problem...

I often get a parts indexing error, it is usually when I have mis named a symbol/footprint name so I find it best to copy/paste them direct from the seperate libraries.

Ihave never needed to do a parts index from both the DE and the libed, as long as they both point to the same library.

That's a point, make sure that they do as the libed does not default to the same library paths if you have changed them in DE.

Re: cadstar problem...

hi

.B3FS 10x1.8 ;TACTILE SWITCH SMD
MECTACTILE SWITCH (MECTACTILE SWITCH)
*STM SW
*NGS
*EQU 2=4, 1=3
*MXP 4
*DFN B3FS 10x1.8
MECTACTILESWITCH (Tactile Switch)

could anyone plz check for any errors in this code.

Re: cadstar problem...

Looks OK to me.

.B3FS 10x1.8 ;TACTILE SWITCH SMD

Seems OK, I use the same switch I think.

MECTACTILE SWITCH (MECTACTILE SWITCH)
Seems OK, but I'd suggest trying it without alternatives first
Using just MECTACTILE SWITCH as the default without any alternatives
means that when you create the PCB, just MECTACTILE SWITCH is used.

If MECTACTILE SWITCH has an alternative (with say a different pad layout) then this can be changed in the PCB.

I'm not 100% sure that the same name should be used for the alternative as the footprint?

Stem name is OK

No gate swapping defined OK although not really required for this as it's a single gate component.

*EQU 2=4, 1=3
This tells me that pins 2 & 4 are the same side of the contact and pins 1 & 3 are the other.

Although not exactly needed, I always put this in too and this is OK.

*DFN B3FS 10x1.8
I assume that this is also in the definitions at the very top of the .lib file it is in?
As "B3FS 10x1.8" possibly with "&" on the end if there is another definition after it.

MECTACTILESWITCH (Tactile Switch)
Looks presented OK - it's not too long a name is it? I cannot find the max lenght of a symbol name. (Zuken are bad about letting us know this)

1.0 3.0 2.0 4.0

This tells me that:
Schematic symbol pin 1 goes to footprint pin 1
Schematic symbol pin 2 goes to footprint pin 3
Schematic symbol pin 3 goes to footprint pin 2
Schematic symbol pin 4 goes to footprint pin 4

Although I can't really tell as I don't have the symbol/footprints it seems OK.

So no I can't see any errors jumping out at me.

Was this done using the library editor or Notepad?

Is there now an error when making the parts index and if so is it the same one?
IS the library path defined in "tools\options\library paths" and with no other libraries defined there 100% accurate?

In the "tools\options\library paths" section are the correct library files slected at the bottom boxes?

And a biggy here as you have not said.. What version of Cadstar are you using?

Roland.

Re: cadstar problem...

hi roland,
as u can see the code is ok.right?
but when i try to insert this part in my schematic ...it is saying part not found.
i did part index and i can see the corresponding library in part index report.
before doing this i checked for all the library paths. the symbol library, the footprint library are ok.
the error is part not found. the version am using 8.0
do u want me to try by giving short names for symbol? i don't think that name is long enough to create problem.but, i will give a try..
thanks for ur suggestions anyway..
cheers

Re: cadstar problem...

Hi
While creating the part which version of Cadstar were u using 8.0?
There may be version mis match.

Is this the problem with this particular part?

Re: cadstar problem...

How big are your libraries?

Can you zip up all .lib files & partlist.lst and send them to me, I can try & sort it easier that way. Then let you know what is/was wrong & return them to you (or you can make the change yourself).

AFAIK you can PM me them.

Roland.
