how do you get 1V = 0x03 33, is there a table i can look at or how do they arrive this?

Normally the voltage is the DAC value 0x0333 multiplied by the step size. The step size itself is usually the reference voltage divided by the resolution. What we need to answer your question is what the reference voltage is and what resolution (8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bits etc.) the DAC is.

Is this a discrete DAC device or embedded in a larger design?

Hi,

0x03 33 is more than 8 bits. It still uses 10 bits. And I´ve never seen an 8 bit DAC with an 8 byte framed interface.

--> we need to know the context. Part number, data sheet link, schematic, reference voltage, communication protocol... and so on.
