that depends on what software can be made available and that depends on thefield

i can tell u about vlsi/dsp/embeded
that is implementing some design on the hardware kit u have in your lab
like ALU(?-bit) on fpga kit, some controller algorithm on dsp kit.
the list is endless . brwose google and u will get code
copy an d edit as per ur hardware, it runs

Your lab should have the supporting instruments,
developments tools like software, programmers etc.

Keep this in mind when you choose the project.

Project :
Microcontroller and Embedded system have variety project to play with.
What about barcode scanning system for products.
Most of the product using barcode on the label. You might to developt a small system, small conveyer system which attach sorting device. So your barcode scanner should read the barcode at any point of direction without human intervention. Then if the host system get your barcode data then they will divert to any lave which they belong to.

try RFID project. RFID is hot rite now. Develop a system which keep track on people inside a building. Each worker in the building is given identification card with embedded RFID chip so that the main computer would know where is the person. It is good for safety especially during emergency like fire or
earthquake.
