design polygon

Hi all,

On an internal plane beneath a BGA 672, I have created an area of copper with the polygon pour option, I have assigned a net 1V2 to it. When I auto fanout and escape route the BGA none of the BGA balls connected to the net 1V2 connect to the copper pour polygon with 1V2 assigned net. What I was expecting was that the BGA balls connected to the net 1V2, would have short tracks then a via to the 1V2 polygon on the internal plane. I am obviously not understanding and doing something wrong, the the idea being that the copper polygon copper pour area connects to the 1V2 at some point negating the need for either power plane or a spit powerplane.

Any help/suggestions in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

copper pour+direct connect via

The fanout command will not connect to polygon pours automatically. However, when you pour the polygon, you can specify whether you want the polygon to direct connect, or thermal connect to the polygon. In the Design Rules, you can choose the width of the thermal relief spokes, and whether you want four or two spokes. The rule is found under "Design>>Rules>>Plane>>Polygon Connect Style".

Note that you cannot create the polygon as part of the footprint. Footprints are only allowed to use "Copper Regions", not "Poured Polygons". The polygon has to be placed after you've put the footprint on the PCB.

To summarize, the polygon controls the connections to pads, not the fanout command.
