It depends what the transistor is used for. For a power transistor, you will care about maximum power and perhaps maximum voltages. If it is for switching, you may care about saturation characteristics or switching times. For a preamplifier, you may care about noise figures. For any high speed circuit, you may care about Ccb and Ft.
