hello,

nice to be on this forum.recently i received a call from a company for a interview for the post of analog layout engineer.

i would like to know what are the topics i should be strong while attending the interview.

this is post for a fresher.

please can anyone mention the skills needed in

electronics,

electricals

geometrical basics

analytical...

You can study,

it's importance

Well , I appered for a similar Interview , as a fresher for Analog Layout...

They asked :-

1)ASIC Flow
2) Fabrication Principles (in details , almost 50% of interview )
3) Basic Analog Electronics. (Opamps, )
4) Basic digital
5) Basic Layout (asked me to draw layout for NAND gate)

Hope it helps...Good Luck !!!

one of the important topic is how to match you layout. either using common centroid, multifinger transistor and other layout technique.

YES, i think so, Match is so important and think about noise is goof

A friend told me that during his interview they asked him more about:

ESD
Antenna Rule
Electro migration
Latch-up

these are very important design cosiderations aren't they?

Layout is important. Software can not automate it.

I was asked about latchup. antenna effect and layout of capacitors. Read the chapter on analog layout in Razavi Analog ic book

I'm new for analog design.....pls give some guidelines to start the analog design

hai, kousi_sen

follow the book

vlsi design techniques for analog and digital circuits by allen , geiger

For understanding analog layout technique plz go through these book's chapter.1. CMOS analog circuit design by B.Razavi (Appendix) 2. CMOS circuit design by Baker,Boyce, and Lee (Analog and Mixed Signal portion) 3. The art of Analog Design by A. Hasting 4. Basics of layout by Saint and Saint.

yes ,as layout engineer ,you should take more care of ESD
Antenna Rule
Electro migration
Latch-up
match of transistor , biplor, mos, capacitor etc.

why not begin from the basic of layout, the mask of layout, then go to that art of layout

In the analog layout design, you must know :
- semiconductor fabrication techniques (it's important because when designing layout you are very close with the silicon manufacturers);
- basic electronics : you must understand how devices work (trasistors, amplifiers and so on).
- some physics and chemistry.
If you know these, you must then read some books, for example "The art of analog layout" and then you must learn from examples from other previous layouts.
Best regards
