Hi,
I want to control a parking gate (24 volt relay) with a pc.The distance between pc and barrier gate is 30 meter. At first please let me know should I use microcontroller or RS-232 can control the relay itself. then please send me the needed schematic and source code.
regards

i think that the RS-232 port can't drive by itself a 24 VDC Relay without interface. Have a look at the following site **broken link removed**
but i prefer as a solution the usage of a micro controller system.

for controlling relay with parallel port
**broken link removed**

But parallel port cable max distance is less than 5m, you better go for wireless or some rs-485 type interfacing

The relay can be powered with 24V at the gate, and the signal can be interfaced to transistor base that is connected as an open collector switch, this will switch this relay, it is a standerd MCD apps.
