Hysteresis vs. jitter characteristics of eye diagram

Hi,
Some one told me that if we introduce the hysteresis into the differential input, you would see an inordinate amount of jitter in the EYE diagram, hence degrading the Bit Error Rate by using hysterisis.

Would anyone help to explain why?
