current sensing

I need to sense current from 1mA to 3A C.C. in non ol very few intrusive mode.
Are Hall sensors for my application?

thx lollo

Hi

Sensing current with Hall sensor is a good solution.

But you can also use others tecnologies like:
- Magnetoresistive Current Sensor.
- or Optic Current Sensor.

you can also use maxim's chips max471 or max472
you can use national's chip LM3812 and family

the intrusive resistance is only some milli-ohms

hope this helps.

Hello!

I'd like to tell you that in MAX471 and 472 you will have a lot of linearity problems in lower 10% of meassuring range.

Regards!

is there any way to detect a open r a short circuit and inform micocontroller that there is a short in the circuit so shutdown

if so kindly give me the link
