Energy in Low pass filter (passive)

Hi, all....

I am just curious where the some energy will go in filtering....

1) Say, just simple RC Low pass filter ( R in series with input and output and C is tapped at the output)....
Obviously, the some (high freq. part) of frequency contents in the input signal won't be passed through to the output. The capacitor will pass the high frequency contents to the ground....

In terms of energy considieration, some of the input energy will be converted into heat due to R. But, high frequency contents will be shorted to the ground.

Where are these high frequency contents energy going to?

Just disappear?

Well think I didn't do very good job to ask my question...but I think...you guys can guess what I mean..

Where are the frequency (high freq. in this example) energy of the input signal going?? These go to the ground...?


what if there is no explicit ground...

Then, the part of the input signal energy that is filtered out through C goes back to Vin?

Energy shouldn't be conserved due to energy conservation theorem?
