Hai all .. i have some queries on the eda tools. There are debates on which tools is the best for ASIC..some prefer mentor and some prefer synopsys and cadence is in between. Can someone eleborate and compare these 3 suites at each design flow level from front end to back end. Let say if u have some money to spend 400K what will u buy?If u can only buy 1 type of suite, which one will u recommend?any articles that i can relate too?

It depends upon the designs you are doing. If you are doing high performance

designs with the latest technologies Synopsys is the best bcoz Quality of results wise

its the best. But Synopsys tools dont come cheap. Other option will be either Cadence

or Magma. Magma is definetly ahead of Cadence but Cadence is lately cathcning up and it has wide range od tools for a full suite.

If you were to choose only 1 type of suite for approx 400K i advice you can go with Cadence

I think Cadence has everything you looking for ASIC.

It depends your IC design flow.
For full-custom design, maybe cadence tools.
For ASIC design flow, maybe synopsys for synthesis etc.

CADENCE tools are good for ANALOG design.
WHERE as for digital design SYNOPSIS &MAGMA are the BEST ones.but these are very costly.[/i]

Magma is very good tool.

Hi there,

when we are talking about design flow, we usually mean the whole process from
design spec, RTL coding, simulation/verification, P&R, etc. There are a lot of EDA tools involved in the flow. For our company, we use Cadence and Mentor tools
for front-end flow, and Megma for back-end flow.

RP,
