Hi all,
I'm trying to design a AC servo motor controller but my experience about this field is nearly zero. Can anyone give me some information about:
- architecture of servo motors (AC/DC).
- method to drive them.
- special µPs or µCs that are usually used in these system.
- sample designs, application notes, user guide...
All information will be appreciated.
Best regards,
Kieennx.

Please give links if possible.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Servo motor control

AC servomotors are in fact AC machines, but supporting extreme max. currents, loads, and speed.
Having higher max. current the acceleration is higher (can start and stop much faster).
Might have different constructions, like brushless DC machines, when instead of having a DC machines where the current is inverted by the brashes, you do that by having external circuitry, which means in fact, that you supply AC current in fact. Than you can have AC motors with one phase or with 3 phase. I have worked with DC motors in which case you have 4 quadrant chopper, or inverters in case of AC motors. In both cases you need IGBT transistors, some kind of combination of bipolar and MOSFET transistors (high input inpedance, but high throughput current). Unforetunatly, I do not have any pdf documentation or link. But try with google.:D

Servo motor control

Hi Belsugului,
Thanks for your guide though it's basic. Can anyone help me more detail in this section?

Re: Servo motor control

IR have the special IC to do the AC servo control job. They also have a good IGBT/MOSFET driver, and the IGBT themself.
Try their website www.irf.com

Good luck
