Hi, I have found this preamplifier which can work on 7MHz and has a relatively high dynamic range
https://www.sv1afn.com/2n5109.html
I would like to replace the one I use on my circuit (attached) with this one, or another one that has a higher dynamic range than my circuit, so that I can reject some of the IMD currently noticed with the current amp.

I do not want push pull or transformers, and I try to avoid inductors for this simple design.

I wonder, how much gain will my simple preamp (attached) have?
Also, can I somehow transform the 2n5109 circuit to use an inductor/capacitor at the drain and no transformer?
Finally can I remove the base inductor?

I do not stick on this circuit, any other simple circuit will be appreciated

Thanks and have a happy 2017!

Before going further - do you realize the SV1AFN design uses an RF power transistor and dissipates about 0.7W, that's why the heat sink is needed.
You will never achieve the same overhead margin with a general purpose transistor biased at 1mA.

Brian.

I have seen quite a few single ended designs with this transistor

and some more.
They all seem to have a high dynamic range, but I cannot compare their gain with the low one I attached (bc549) to find out if they will do ok in my RX.

Also I would love to replace the transformer with a choke and capacitor, or even RC for simplicity but I do not know about the performance degrading.
