Hello everyone,

What do you think of Chisel HDL made possible by UC Berkeley? is it worth spending time learning it? is there any major benefit in contrast to Verilog or VHDL?

Thanks in advance.

Never heard of it. doesnt have any support from the vendors.
Yet another attempt to create another HDL or C to gates attempt (even though it claims it's not).

If you want to work in industry, learn (System)Verilog or VHDL.
Go for it if you want a hobby project no one will ever use.

I don't really see any major advantages. It also seems to be the least similar to VHDL/Verilog/C++/etc... in terms of syntax.

The FAQ should have a section of what aspects are better. It doesn't really feel like a HLS tool, so the use of scala doesn't seem important in terms of gaining a different/wider audience. At the same time, lack of builtin logic operators and syntax makes the language feel more cluttered.

I don't think there will be a non-C based next-gen language that ever gains widespread adoption. I feel it is more likely VHDL/Verilog will gain synthesis support for existing constructs or subsets of constructs that could be synthesized.

it's a waste of your time and a waste of everyone's time. I have encountered the creator in multiple conferences, and despite my best attempts to be open minded about it, there is not a single strong argument that justifies the existence of this language.
