Hi,

I have single phase energy meter, which is having optical port option. by using this port I need to read the data's. I really don't have any idea how to read it please help me.

Energy meter Image is attached for reference.

My ultimate Idea read the energy meter data and display in computer using hyper-terminal

I can only see a LCD panel.

If it is a "real meter" you are not supposed to fiddle (finger) it- perhaps you can attach a camera in front, take pictures at regular intervals, use character recognition software to read the numbers and then do your own processing.

Apart from that, I cannot recognize any optical port (what does it mean exactly?)

It may have a pulsed infrared led, like a TV remote control.

Try taking a movie of it with your phone camera, these usually have fairly decent infrared response, and up close with the camera, you might just be able to see one of those clear leds flashing.

Its then a case of monitoring it with a photo transistor and an oscilloscope, and trying to figure out the data bit rate, and what it may be trying to tell you.

Hi,

Yes, photodiode and scope...

I think asking for the manufacturer name and the model type is too easy...it's not a challenge.

Hi,

you make it really difficult...

--> manufacturer homepage --> meters --> single phase --> download catalog.

It says:
Communication interfaces:
(Utility specific) IEC62056-21/ DLMS (IS15959)/IR/ IrDA port/ RS232 port for
external communication

Google: "IEC62056-21" --> gives a lot of information including full protocol description (even wikipeda page)

Google: "DLMS" --> gives a lot of information including full protocol description (even wikipeda page)

Google: "IS15959" --> gives a lot of information including full protocol description

****
I wonder why you have problems finding the informations yourself...

If the IR option is installed and working, please follow #3 suggestions. Once you are sure that the IR pulses are being produced, you need to use a photo transistor or a simpler photodiode to pickup the pulses. Connect it to the RS232 port and see if you can make out any data.

Hi,

If it's IrDa, then you won't have much luck with RS232, not with level, nor with bit length.

With IrDa a HIGH bit is: no signal
A LOW bit is a 3/16 bit width signal.
