Implementing Groung Penetrating Radar(GPR)

Hey guys,I am new here, from Turkei.
I and my 3 friends will develop a simple GPR radar for our graduation project.
*We are going to use 1 Ghz bow tie antennas
*is going to transmit pulse signal
*are going to detect only whether there is a metal or not under the ground
*then we are going to do data collecting interface
to simulate simple GPR.

I want you to help me about
-How we will transmit received signal to computer
-Which method should we use to do signal processing
Thanks your helps.

Re: Implementing Groung Penetrating Radar(GPR)

A former colleague of mine did this commercially to locate coal deposits for surface mining in Canada in late 80's early 90's.

It required very rigid antenna ( built like a tank , not a bowtie) and doppler phase radar measurements.
