How would I increase the power of a device?

Hi, sorry if this is a newbie question but I was just wondering...
I don't actually have a circuit I want to increase the power of, but I'm interested in how someone would do it. To the best of my knowledge, power is Joules/Seconds (I'm assuming its Joules/One second?) So anyway, if someone wanted to increase that, would they make the calculations and upgrade the components to deliver more Joules per second? Can someone explain this in more detail for me.
 

Since energy is power per second, power can come from many sources.

With lower source resistance source power is P= VxI, if discharging a capacitor P= 1/2 C*V^2 or storing power in an inductor P=1/2 L*I^2

... Or solar power ~ 20% of full sun power=1KW/sq.m. solar panel using ~70% of open circuit voltage to yield P=V*I max.

Thus increasing V, I, lowering series resistance or panel size are some ways to increase power.
