Hi Everyone,

I used PAD to do PCB layout. The board that I am working has almost 2k of components footprint. I noticed that PAD does not have auto placement option. I search on google, and some people suggested to export the netlist to allegro to do auto placement. I would like to ask what is the most effective way to place all the components on the board. I am worry the library for PAD and allegro will not be the same. Please let me know if you have any input.

I have not use allegro, if allegro is the right way of solve this issue. I would like to ask which package of allegro should I get.

Thanks

i am confused by your question if you have 2000 component if you have similar circuit then only you have to do the replication.else you have to do it manually if you want to work your PCB.In Allegro 16.3 you can replicate the circuit. I don't prefer auto placement.

Auto placement option is available in pads i.e called as cluster placement, but is not recommended. If you are looking for reuse of placement then that is possible in pads.Let us know what exactly ur looking for..

Thank you for suggestions. Some one did a schematic is DXDesigner and now I need to do layout in PAD. The board has about 2000 components with 20 layers board. I created all the PCB decal and push over to PAD layout. Now I need to do the layout. I would like to ask do you have any document on explain how to layout such a project effectively.

Praveenlb, can you explain about "replicate the circuit"

Sivamani, thank you fro point out the cluster placement option. Can you explain why you not recommend use cluster placement option.

Thanks

replicate circuit means you can do the multiple placement only when reference designator is different. other thing are same. it will save the designing time. It lokk good also.

Cluster placement:Any auto placement option will be done based on the space availability on the board and it does not have intelligence to place components as for the functionality...This option can be recommended for non critical circuits only...

Thanks sivamni and praveenlb.
