Building a switch module

Hi!

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I have to give it a shot.
I'll leave out all the booring details;

I have a device that issues a "control signal" - a low voltage pulse - on the press of a button on a remote handset.
What I need it to do is to connect two wires, like a light switch.

Any input on how I can build a module for this thing, that connects a circuit when the control signal is issued?
 

You need something like a flip flop. Send out a pulse it goes over, send another pulse it goes back. This flip flop then controls the actual switch. If you have a big pulse, you could do it with relays, if the pulse is weedy and fast, a chip would be better. Then you have to specify what you want to switch, 230V AC?, 12 V DC?, .01 A?, 20A?

I think that is good to see just like one of examples how some Osram compact fluorescent light bulb with led works.

Of course I give Osram as example, also there is others manufacturers with similar solutions.

Counting switching or switching interval with timer.

This approach to solution can give you ability to keep existing wires.

If You need just simple control remote unit just say, there is lots of projects.

Thanks so far.

Specs are as follows:

Voltage of signal to trigger the switch: 4~5 mV, current is next to nothing
Voltage over the main circuit: 4~5 V. also here current is next to nothing (this is also just a control signal to unlock a door)

The pulse is for 2-3 seconds, but I only need the main circuit to be enabled for a few milli-seconds.

What components are required for a chip like this?
