prototyping with smd

Prototyping with SMD IC's can be very tedious for hobbyists. Especially so if the IC's are precious samples.

How does one get around this? Are there any adaptors/ sockets or other gimmics available?

bimbla.

There are adapters for SMD ICs, but the price for those adapters are SKY HIGH ...
