Hi All,

I am making a VCO whose central frequency of oscillation is 2.5GHz . I ve been using MIMCAP_MM capacitors till now. But there are few RF capacitors also present in the UMC_18_CMOS library . Is there a need to go for those since my frequency of operation is high. Or will it do if I continue with the above mentioned MIMCAP_MM capacitors?

I am using these capacitors in a capacitor bank ( which is in parallel with the LC tank ) which I am using for getting a wider tuning range of the VCO. These capacitors have external switches to have flexibility to tune the VCO operating frequency against process variations.

Regards,

The selection is up to you.First of all you must ensure which capacitors the fab allows for tape out,you can cross-check this information with a contact with your PDK provider.
With this given, you must perform some simulations with the various capacitors types available in the PDK libraries and see which of them suit better to your application (i mean those which reach the specs) and of course you must
see which of them suffer from less process and temperature variations (run the respective corner-Monte Carlo simulations in parallel with a process' manual careful reading).
