Hi,

I'm a software developer and new to electronics so my knowledge in that field is very basic. I came across an interesting project that I'd like to tackle but I'm not sure where (or how) to start.

I am trying to put a device together that has 3 cameras capturing 3 different angles. I then need to combine those 3 different streams into one stream and then send it to a computer preferably over a wireless transmission. USB or any other wired solution would work as well, just trying to build a proof of concept prototype.

My first question is if such a thing is possible? If so, where would I begin? Also, if anyone has experience in this field and can build something to that extent I'm willing to pay for a basic prototype to speed up my own learning process.

I've attached a basic image outlining what I described above.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Nik

What you want to do will require a speedy wireless transfer rate. It might be possible if you use small video frames, and slow frame rate.

Even if you used ethernet, the rate would likely not be fast enough to handle tv quality video.

As for the computer, these are being made fast enough to handle the required video rates.

Would you need to dedicate a computer to accepting 3 video feeds and joining them into one? Most likely. You also might need to obtain a special PCI card that has 3 video inputs. (PCI or its sister formats as specified by the computer slot dimensions.)

Don't know what program will combine multiple live videostreams into one.

You may achieve what you want if you draw on a variety of computer functions. There's (1) the USB webcam type of setup, and (2) the incoming ethernet setup, and (3) the incoming from video camera to PCI video card setup.
