A simple circuit using PIC16F84A behaving abnormal! I have built this circuit months ago, which is still working perfect. But I was trying to assemble the same circuit two days ago but a strange phenomenon had occurred.

The PIC runs only if I touch the Crystal body !

I reassembled the same circuit on two different veroboards, changed the crystal three times, changed those 22pf capacitors, changed the PIC16F84A but nothing happened.
Everything working fine if I use a RC oscillator (from OSC1 pin a 10k resistance to positive supply and a grounded 22pf ).

The same PIC16F84A running perfectly on the old circuit board that I have assembled months ago.

Any idea!

Can you post the circuit diagram? :)

Get bigger capacitors near the point where the pic gets the voltage ;)

I had a problem just like that a while ago! keep adding them hehe (i believe i added 2cap 47uf)

Are you sure you have specified XT in the fuse settings?

And why not migrate your design to a 16F628A; cheaper, more meory, and no crystal required, unless your application is very timing critical.
