Power planes for double-sided board in Altium

I've been reading the Altium Wiki to try and learn how to use the PCB tools. Currently I want to route a board with only two surface copper layers, one on the front and one on the back, and *no internal layers*. Is there a way to have a power plane on the surfaces of the board instead of adding an internal layer? Altium really wants me to use an internal layer for a power plane and I really don't want to. If the power plane is split by traces that's OK as long as the router connects them, which I believe it does.
 

What do you expect from "a power plane" on a two-layer PCB? Preferably, you would want to have good ground connections, at least tightly meshed traces. You can fill up unused areas with copper pours connected to ground net later on.
 

Even on a two-layer PCB, a plane is useful for me for better conductivity on high-current nets. Also, when using chemical etchant I'll have to remove less copper. Anyway, how do I make a copper pour?
 

A copper pour can be e.g. drawn as a rectangle over the full PCB area and will connect to all same net traces but leave other nets blank with sufficient spacing. Ask the Altium Designer documentation. If you want copper pours for multiple (power and ground) nets, drawing the contours explicitely can't be avoided, I fear.
