hi everyone
i have a query on smps designing.
i recently obtained a circuit from top245 datasheet for 12v 2.5 smps
i am looking forward to draw its scematic on eagle.
i am new to pcb designing, hence having sum difficulty
while drawing the shematic i was not able to locate the top245 switch in the library and also not the 817 optocoupler ic
i want to know how to go about desining the powersupply.
also if i want to get the pcb board outsourced do i have to give them pcb shematic in .sch format or can i give them jpg file for both the schematic and pcb board
thank you
ankur
i have enclosed the schematic as attachment

Hi Ankur,

I am not familiar with Eagle, but as with most schematic capture programs, you should be able to generate a NETLIST, which is what the pcb designer will use. Your pcb layout person should tell you what format they would prefer (dependent on what software they use).

As far as the missing components, you are going to have to create them yourself. I'm sure Eagle has some method for creating custom parts; read the manual.

hi anukar

you can create the top245 switch in tne schematic of eagle, but i think orcad capture is very user friendly you can create a component withn in seconds.pls try this,And for outsource about pcb design ask the person that which softwaer that he is using if you are not intrested to give the schematic you can give the net list and datasheets for the components which you are using. But you have to take care while rooting pcb power track thickness should be more and the track should be drawn correctly.

soory for my poor english

You may open some library (create a new library) and then edit the appropriate symbol, package or device. You get there using the Edit command (see the online help for syntax). Better try to import a similar component in a new library and later to edit. See the results:

on a technical point, while designing a power supply you should make sure your layout should adhere to EMI/EMC issues, DC drop, isolation etc.....these isues can be adresed by proper layout/placement......

You can find lot of application notes for layout/placement from google or powerint site itself...

**broken link removed**

also PCB designer basically needs to be provided only netlist and datasheets.....also the layout/placement guidelines notes.......

thnk guyz for your help
for the top switch i downloaded it from eagle library.so problem solved.
i have almost completed the schematic.i have started with the pcb design.
i want to know exactly which capcitors to use from the library.
there are tons of cap. with different sizes and symbols.eg american european etc.
taking an eg of filter resistor it rates like 400v.
how do i determine those things
