hello everyone..
we are designing a LNA using Infineon bfp740 and simulated it on AWR Microwave Office. in Infineon website, they gives AWR model of the transistor, but we can not have nonlinear analysis, for example; OIP3.
it gives the error message "the interception point measurement must specify order two or more"..

could anyone please help us with our problem:smile:.
thank you

Hello,

Yes you have to use PORT2 with two tones to measure the IP3 of an Amplifier...
Also you need to sweep the input power using Swept variable to plot IP3...
See the attached schematic setup...

If you still have problems then upload ur MWO file (*.emp) to help you better...

hello,
i am using two tones and swept already but couldn't find the problem again, i cannot make OIP3 analysis again :(
i am attaching the .emp file , if you could have a chance to look at, i will be grateful.
i also write some explanations in "design notes".
thank you for your help, looking forward to hearing from you..

Hello cem,

In the OIPN measurement page the index of IM Component shoud match with the order say in this case for 3rd Order
it must be either 6 or 6.02...i.e the IM index 2,1
Then it works fine...
see the attached modified project...

I also I have seen that you are not sweeping power instead measuring IP3 Vs Frequency...
If you need IP3 Vs Input Power sweep then you need to use simulation control block & sweep the power say from -20 dBm to 0dBm & plot IP3...

I hope this helps...

hello again manju,
first, thank you very much for your help and time. your advices are very helpful for me, i'm really grateful.
i have one last question;
i should measure the third-order intercept by using two -20 dBm input signals at 2.44 and 2.46 GHz. i start frequency range in "project options " from 2.44 GHz.
but i don't know the index of IM comp. for my range. should 2.44 be multiplied by 3 ?? or something different?
thank you
Cem

2.44*2-2.46*1 or 2.46*2-2.44*1

thank you for post.
should they be equal? in my design, 2,-1 and -1,2 are not equal, what is the reason for this?
gain can be said to be nearly flat.
