my wife bought me a popcorn machine for christmas that doesn't have a warming tray. The popcorn gets cold pretty fast. higher end models have a 50w heating element underneath the stainless steel surface that the popcorn falls onto after it pops. i am not sure if it's as simple as wiring an element into an on/off switch to a 120v supply or not... i know there are foil heaters, but i'm not sure where to get one. i only have a surface area of 15"x17" to heat up.

thanks,
Tim

hey why can not you look up for induction heating principle.... induction heater are available in market... same way you can make one for your small requirement....thats what i feel..

Most of the small popcorn machines I've seen use a radiant heat lamp from above for this purpose. This would probably be the easiest to retrofit into an existing design. Just turn it on some time before popping to preheat the bin.

it was advertised as having a heating lamp, but it's only a 60w regular light bulb... it says to put no more than 60w in it. Most real heat lamps are several hundred watts. You may be correct that I should review the wiring and look at upgrading it to change it into a real heating lamp.... i hadn't thought of that. Most of the trays in popcorn machines with heating trays are hot to the touch so they do generate some heat.

thanks for your input.

i just checked... those bulbs are too big.

The next best thing would be a PAR16 120V 60W halogen bulb with E26 base (medium Edison) directed towards the popcorn storage. It's about the same size as an A bulb and will direct the heat to where you want it. They come in 10° spot or 30° flood; the narrower, the better to keep the heat in the area you want it. Sometimes these are available at home improvement centers, otherwise, light bulb specialty stores.

Don't forget to thank your wife for giving you a gift that requires repair or modification. She knows you need to tinker.
