Ethernet Query

Hello guys, I am in the middle of my FYP. I am basically stuck at one point and need your help.

The problem is regarding 'establishing a ethernet link using microchip ENC28J60'. I have all the components to get the communications up and running except the 'specific ethernet isolation transformers'. Manier times I have seen people using 'FB2022' instead of transformers, but its not available to me. Similarly I can not get my hands on RJ-45 with built in transformers.

And here goes my query
1. Can I use current transformers without 'center tap'?? Will it really matter??
2. What if I use current transformers having turn ratio other than 1:1 like 1:1.3 or 1:1.414 or 1:2??
3. Is there any other solution to this problem like, using voltage transformers, opto isolation, etc??

Plz help as I really need to get this art of my project completed. Following is the image of the schematic from data sheet.

Re: Ethernet Query

The specification for the ethernet magnetics is given clearly in the ENC28J60 datasheet: "A 1:1 pulse transformer rated for 10BASE-T operation is required." On the TX side, it needs a center tap. CT means center tap, not current transformer, by the way. Ethernet transformers can be found e.g. in old computer network adaptors.

Re: Ethernet Query

FVM, I have got a network adapter of some xyz company and I can see a transformer IC on it. I have even tried to de sold it. But the problem is, I wasnt able to completely clean soldered joints due to vey fine soldering (probably done by wave soldering method). Secondly, I am afraid if heat the joint for a prolonged period, then the IC may get fried.
Any tips on this issue??

Thirdly, I can get my hands on quiet a few LAN cards, but most of them have surface mount components. Can you also please guide me, how to take those components off and use them as I am student and have used only DIP packaged components.
