Problem with recognizing homemade Pikkit2 by MPlab and Pikkit 2.61 software

Please some one knows aboute Pikkit2 pls help me. i make own pkikit 2 but- when i connect with MPlab or Pikkit 2.61 software they displaying unespected device. i used pic877....

in the pickit2 driver
, you finf user guide in the "help" menu.
please go through
if you have wired the Vdd adj circuitry try to run calibrate the device. otherwise run "trouble shoot"

as you call for the software, you shopuld get the meaage recognising the pickit2.
you may define the p device as base range and also define auto detect device.

ensure that the two pins of Vdd are looped and like wise, the Vss (gnd) pins too.

Something is wrong with your device... i did make my own pickit2 few months ago and it worked fine. No need to run anything, just plug 'n play!

please upload your pickit2 schematic some one might help you......and without having a look at the circuit diagram its difficult to tell where is the exact prob ..and please check the voltage output of vss an vd using volt meter...

Thats my circuit and it does work with 3.3v chips, but you must have the target chip powered with its own 3.3v and leave the pk2 pin2 Vdd disconnected.

Alternativley you can run the whole Pk2lite and target chip via a 3.3v regulator.

As i said few post earlier i own a pickit2 clone, do you thing the pins MCLR, DAT and CLK affect the programming if i use my programmer but power the pic via a 3.3 regulator??

Hi,

Well as I just said either way has worked ok for me, I've programmed Pic24Fj and 18LF chips ok.

To be totally safe then power the pk2 with a 3v3 regulator so you cannot overvolt anything or bother about having to power the target chip seperately.

Just use a switch on the 3v3 regulator so you can select it or +5v.

So both on 3.3V and 5V these 3 pins work the same way, could i use a voltage regulator in 5volt pin and make the output 3.3V or the regulator requires a higher voltage??

I have said this many times before and I will continue to say it now: free stuff is usually very expensive, as you are finding it out.

Just out of curiosity, why are people building/buying clones of this programmer? Building it, I could understand, if it's done for the sake of learning. But I keep seeing these clones for sale for $40-50, when you can buy an ORIGINAL Microchip Pickit2 for $34.99. Microchip even sells it themselves for this price, at least in the US.

Is it more expensive elsewhere? I just don't see the advantage of paying more for some wonky Chinese clone when the real deal can be had for less money. :|

in india pickit2 cost more than 3000rs+tax and pickit3 around 5000. pic lite is cheap and best solution it just cost me 450rs

Here in Brazil the only place that we can buy pickit2 is at farnell and it cost 120USD. We could get it from USA but we would pay 40 USD of shipping and our customs dont seem to like to let our country develop technologically becouse they can apply (at they free will) up to 88% of taxes at any eletronic device that is imported. What is more interesting the 88% is not based on the product value, but at product value+shipping!!! Amazing huh? The only restriction is for porducts+shipping with total value no more than 50 USD sent by a pearson and not a company as a gift. But anyway.. pickit2 clone is 30 USD with free shipping. But they really work really well. Actualy not only pickit2 clone, but ICD2, Altera USB Blaster, Xilinx USB Cable and so on.

In my country, its hard to find and buy a PK2 programmer, or if u find its to expensive, its about 100+$, but the electronic parts by us are cheap, and one of this clones cost me around 10$, so I build my own :)

you better make one with artwork found at https://www.edaboard.com/threads/118478/#post610392 Mr Nishal gave a good artwork over there.
you need to be sure that the transistors and MOsFETS have suitable pinout , otherwise you need to swap the pins of devices to suite the artwork.

Ok,I will try to build it, I have one now but i have problems with the power supply, i will repair it and then i will build this :)
